I just don’t feel like it!

In college it is hard to stay on task and even harder to be diligent. Half the time, I want to lay in bed and day dream; the other half, I want to eat, drink and enjoy the pleasures of life. None of the time do I want to work or do school work. Laziness is a real struggle for me, that and procrastination. The bible states in Ecclesiastes 11:4, “He that is watching the wind will not sow seed; and he that is looking at the clouds will not reap.” Laziness and procrastination will not fair well. I know this, yet I find myself hiding under the covers in the morning and looking for every reason not to get out the bed. Proverbs 6:9 poses these questions, “How long, you lazy one, will you lie there? When will you rise up from your sleep?” My answer to those questions most the time is forever and never. What does the bible have to say to my answers? Proverbs 13:4 says, “The lazy person has his cravings, yet he has nothing, But the diligent one will be fully satisfied.” So if you don’t want to have nothing you have to be diligent and put out something.

Entertainment.. spiritism

dreamstimeextrasmall_19652318I know first hand it is hard to avert spiritism. As I’m writing this blog, my friend is watching a suggestive spiritism film, and since I’m here, I am watching it too. Spiritism is one of the hardest snares to stay away from. I do a pretty good job at avoiding it, but I still get ensnared by it too.

The bible speaks clearly about spiritism; it says in Deuteronomy 18: “10  There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, anyone practicing magic, anyone who looks for omens, a sorcerer, 11  anyone binding others with a spell, anyone who consults a spirit medium or a fortune-teller, or anyone who inquires of the dead. 12  For whoever does these things is detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable practices Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you.”

Proverbs 20: “19  A slanderer goes about revealing confidential talk;+Do not associate with one who loves to gossip.*”

Did you know that the meaning of the name Devil is slanderer?  God named the wicked angel Devil, who told the first lie causing reproach on God’s name. Because of this, we know Jehovah views slander as a very detestable thing. In the scripture above, what did it relate slander to: gossip. Gossip is form of slander. The information that is spread in gossip might not be 100 percent accurate. This makes it a lie. When you go spending this information, it might hurt a persons reputation.

I have no witness friends.

I am an unbaptized aspiring witness. I have no witness friends so I have not given up any of my worldly friends. Not that I’m sure that I would make that sacrifice if I did have witness friends, but as for now that is my excuse.

1 Corinthians 15:33 “Do not be misled. Bad associations spoil useful habits.”

I am a witness to the scripture above. I know it is 1000% true. How? Because of last semester when I was on my solo dolo status and not really hanging out with anyone, I was more productive and more involved with my spiritual health. It was because my only  major influences was my dorm roommate, who never went anywhere and wasn’t a very social person, and my bible study conductor, who is a baptized Jehovah’s witness.  Now I’ve pulled myself so far anyway from Jehovah and its because I didn’t allow the right influences to lead me to flourish instead I allowed the wrong ones to lead my spirituality to wither. How can I be modest and sexy.

If you ask my friends they will tell you I’m a looker with sexy taste. At least that’s what I think they’ll say. (Laughs) But to be honest , I know my dress is no where near modest. I like to show legs and show off my curves. Most the time my dresses and skirts only come mid thigh and they are fitted.  I like to steal the attention when I come in the room because I know I look good. But these things are frowned upon. Especially because you are suppose to represent Jehovah in all walks of life. The bible tell women to dress modest and with soundness of mind. Not to be flashy and showy, which I normally am.

1 Timothy 2:9, 10 “9  Likewise, the women should adorn themselves in appropriate dress, with modesty and soundness of mind, not with styles of hair braiding and gold or pearls or very expensive clothing, 10  but in the way that is proper for women professing devotion to God, namely, through good works.”

1 Corinthians 10:31 “31 Therefore, whether you are eating or drinking or doing anything else, do all things for God’s glory.”

Weekends .. partying and drinking

alcohol-492871_960_720I love to have a good time. After dealing with classes, working, homework and life’s stresses, I love to let lose and have fun. What’s a better way to let your hair down then partying and over drinking? I haven’t found one. Plus, I’m in college! I’m expected to have fun while I’m young, childless and can afford to be selfish. But the bible doesn’t have the same view as me. Partying and over drinking is not a light matter. The bible warns against it multiple times.

Galatians 5:21 “21  envy, drunkenness,+ wild parties,* and things like these.+ I am forewarning you about these things, the same way I already warned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom.+

Proverbs 23:20 “20  Do not be among those who drink too much wine, Among those who gorge themselves on meat”

I need things!

5148f5bd-3848-4acf-bc27-9279d90c8116We live in a world where there’s always something new out. I’m guilty of being in snared by materialism. Materialism is the desire or yearning for more material possessions. It is being preoccupied with material things rather than spiritual riches.

With me being young material things mean a lot. What you have makes you look better, especially to your peers. But what is the bible’s view on matters?

The bible states in 1 John 2:15-16 “15  Do not love either the world or the things in the world.+ If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him;+16  because everything in the world—the desire of the flesh+and the desire of the eyes+ and the showy display of one’s means of life*—does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world.”

Bible principle: abstaining from sex before marriage.

Sex before marriage is a big deal in the bible. It is called fornication. Fornication is a form of sexually immorality.

The bible states in 1 Corinthians 6:18  “Flee from sexual immorality!* Every other sin that a man may commit is outside his body, but whoever practices sexual immorality is sinning against his own body.”

For those who don’t exactly know what sexual immorality is; it is a general term for all unlawful sexual intercourse. It includes adultery, prostitution, sexual relations between unmarried individuals, homosexuality, and bestiality.

What happens at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness Meeting?

The Kingdom Hall is a place where Jehovah’s Witness show worship to their God. How is this worship shown you ask? It’s done by devoting time to learn about and draw closer to Jehovah our God. Also to encourage and uplift brothers, sisters and bible students inside the congregation. For apostle Paul wrote “not forsaking our meeting together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another, and all the more so as you see the day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10, 25)

Who are Jehovah’s Witnesses?

Most people have assumptions about who exactly are Jehovah’s Witnesses. Well the truth is that they’re regular people like you and me. They’re not in a cult like some believe. They do believe in God and his son Jesus Christ. They are Christians by definition, followers of Christ. So what makes Witnesses, who could be your neighbors, coworkers, or classmates different? The fact that they are diligent students of the bible who works day and night to know accurate bible truths and bring their lives in harmony with bible principles. Continue reading
